Retroperitoneal Nerves
There three images are all of retroperitoneal nerves.  On the left is a neurovascular bundle (NVB) in a thin 60 year old male.  In the center is a small branch of the NVB see within fat, which is typical for the neurovascular bundle.  On the right is an image of a sympathetic nerve (part of the sympathetic chain), during dissection for lymph nodes during a retroperitoneal lymph node dissection. Typically the nerve is round to oval, and there and fairly even in brightness.  In contrast, a vessel shows loss of contrast with depth, due to the bright reflection of blood, and appears crescent shaped.
